For those of us whose workdays typically involve a high degree of human interaction and team collaboration, the “new normal” of social distancing and work from home mandates may have brought about feelings of Groundhog Day – surreal, if not stressful.
In my 15 years in the recruitment business and 20+ years in the Events and Hospitality Industry, we have certainly faced global and domestic challenges before – 9/11, SARS, GFC, the recent bushfires – but nothing on this scale. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost their jobs and continue to have their livelihoods affected.
This Covid-19 pandemic is unprecedented and has completely changed the global economic landscape and life as we know it. Add to it preparations for a newborn baby – my partner and I are expecting in June 2020 – considerations of what “normal” daily life entail have shifted considerably.
There are many messages out there from our industry leaders and colleagues, calling for us to stay strong, hang in there and support each other. And they are right; we need to stick together to ensure our great industry not only survives but thrives again once we come out the other side. Let’s use this challenge to strengthen our passion for connection and creativity – it’s what we do.

From the UK, the video below shares times of positivity and togetherness to remember during this unprecedented period.

Right now, during the business “off-season”, as we are calling it, we are doing what we can to support our candidates and clients, sharing practical WFH tips, financial support information, and employer and leadership advice to cope with this changing environment. We are choosing to adopt a positive mindset and to be energised and excited by opportunities awaiting us on the other side of this pandemic.
Let’s use this time to get to know each other.
My team and I are available for a chat or virtual meeting to discuss your or your business’ situation – let’s use this time to get to know each other. Please feel free to schedule a call with me, send me an email, connect with me on LinkedIn.
Stay safe and look after each other. Together we will do this.
