    Keep it simple.\u00a0While it\u2019s tempting to jazz up\u00a0your resume\u00a0and show off your\u00a0design\u00a0skills,\u00a0using\u00a0advanced graphics, charts,\u00a0and\u00a0table\u00a0columns, it\u00a0can often be\u00a0a\u00a0major disadvantage\u00a0for\u00a0your application. Not only\u00a0does\u00a0it make your\u00a0CV hard to read, automated recruitment systems and resume parsing will not be able to process it\u00a0accurately. A resume\u00a0that is too difficult to read\u00a0has a high chance of slipping\u00a0through\u00a0the cracks.\u00a0Microsoft WORD\u00a0saved as\u00a0PDF remains your safest bet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Keep it short, no more than 2-3 pages.\u00a0While you\u00a0may have loads of experience\u00a0and lots you want to convey, the person on the other end\u00a0does not have time to\u00a0settle back on the couch with a cuppa\u00a0and read your life history.\u00a0The past 10 years\u00a0of\u00a0work experience is plenty\u00a0\u2013 give more\u00a0airtime\u00a0to\u00a0your most recent roles that are relevant to the job you are going for.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

        Please\u00a0please\u00a0don\u2019t simply rehash your generic job description,\u00a0go into\u00a0detail\u00a0about\u00a0what makes your experience unique \u2013 think\u00a0about\u00a0key clients\u00a0you have worked with, key projects\u00a0you managed\u00a0or were part of, promotions\u00a0or awards you obtained,\u00a0and\u00a0if you managed a team.\u00a0Try and reference keywords from the job advertisement you are responding to.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

          Including numbers in your resume\u00a0improves the overall readability\u00a0of the document.\u00a0Prospective employers are very interested\u00a0to know\u00a0the size of the events you worked on- how many attendees, how many team members you managed, what budgets you worked with,\u00a0and\u00a0revenue\u00a0targets\u00a0you achieved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

            It seems obvious\u00a0but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still a trap some people fall into when they want to appear more experienced than they are.\u00a0If you\u00a0fudge your previous\u00a0titles or responsibilities a recruiter\u00a0or hiring manager\u00a0will almost always find out\u00a0through a reference check, or in-depth screening questions. Lying is\u00a0a quick way to\u00a0be ruled\u00a0out of the running for your dream job.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

              Checking over your social media accounts<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is something that not all\u00a0job applicants\u00a0will think to do, but\u00a0remember\u00a0that 94% of recruiters use social media in their recruitment efforts. If you have LinkedIn, check that\u00a0it\u00a0reflects the\u00a0roles\u00a0and timeline\u00a0on your resume. Make sure you\u00a0have an appropriate and professional headshot\u00a0(no sunglasses –\u00a0Ever.). Do you have Facebook or Instagram?\u00a0Make sure you\u00a0delete any embarrassing photos\u00a0or\u00a0adjust your privacy settings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
